Residual adduction of the forefoot in treated congenital club foot.

چکیده
Adduction of the forefoot is recognised as one element of the deformity of club foot. It commands little attention because it is one of the less disabling features, and it has been suggested that spontaneous correction eventually occurs (Wynne-Davies 1964). Metatarsus varus and talo-navicular subluxation, singly or in combination, are the two abnormalities responsible for this deformity. The role of metatarsus varus has not been previously investigated and consequently it is usually regarded as the less important factor. This survey of older children was undertaken to determine the incidence and cause of residual adduction of the forefoot after various conventional methods of treatment of congenital club foot. We emphasise that cases of congenital metatarsus varus as a separate entity were excluded.

Forefoot adduction is a common condition between metatarsus adductus, Z-shaped foot and residual clubfoot. This deformity is located in a pure transverse plane at Lisfranc’s joint. Isolated metatarsus adductus is corrected spontaneously for the majority of newborns. In rare uncorrected cases, it could result in Z-shaped foot with a functional hindfoot valgus to equilibrate the resistant metatar...

Club foot â or, more correctly, congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV) 1 â describes a specific foot deformity of midfoot cavus, forefoot adduction, hindfoot varus and equinus. The World Health Organisation has estimated that 100â000 children are born with CTEV, with 80% occurring in the developing world. 2 Ignacio Ponseti died on October 18 2009 aged 95. He was a pioneer in paediatric ort...

I read with interest the article ‘‘Combined double tarsal wedge osteotomy and transcuneiform osteotomy for correction of resistant club foot deformity (the bean-shaped foot) by Elgeidi and Abulsaad [1]. I would, however, like to draw attention to some errors in their description of the double osteotomy technique. In their article the authors mention that the procedure described by Jawish [2] in...

Cavo-varus deformity of the foot secondary to poliomyelitis, congenital club foot or other diseases is a rather complex deformity caused by imbalance of intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the foot. Correction by tarsal reconstruction with or without soft-tissue procedures is the accepted form of treatment. However, in children too young for tarsal reconstruction the problem remains, because the...
